There are various types of birthday cards sold today, with some going as far as using actual voices to make the greetings more personalized. In the past, greeting cards relied so much on poetic text and custom letters to be memorable, but through the years the production and design of these cards have evolved to include pop-ups, embossed letters, embellishments, music and even the human voice.

However, what makes the best birthday cards is the thought behind the creation of every piece. For example, to a mother, a birthday card painstakingly colored and drawn by her two-year-old son would be more valuable than a ready-made musical card that plays her favorite song when it’s opened.
